CRICKET BALLS ETC.  Godstone C.C. are providing the cricket balls (1 per match), Independent Umpires & the groundsman will have prepared the pitch & cut the outfield.

LOCAL RULES.

KNOCKOUT COMPETITION.  ALL MATCHES PLAYED ON GODSTONE GREEN
(28 May to 09 July 2008)

1.       Each team will bat for 20 overs unless all out earlier. A batting side is not permitted to declare their innings closed.

2.      Matches are due to start at 6.00 pm, with a 10 minutes interval before the start of the second innings. In the event of a team arriving late the Umpire & the 2 team captains can decide to reduce the number of overs bowled. (See Rule 9).

3.       Both teams will incur 1 penalty run per ball if 20 overs are not bowled within 75 minutes.  Any and all penalties & any extras are added to the teams score. (See Rule 6)

4.       The Umpire will impose a 5 run penalty if a new striker is not in position ready to receive the ball within 90 seconds of a wicket falling. The umpire may impose 5 penalty runs for any & all time wasting by the fielding side or the batting side.

5.       A minimum of 4 fielders must be within a 30 yard ‘circle’ from the stumps at each end. This excludes the wicket keeper & bowler.  A bowler is permitted to bowl only 4 overs.

6.       No-balls & wides are to be penalised with 2 penalty extras. 1 bouncer permitted per over otherwise with 2 no-ball extras if more. (See Rule 3 & 5).

7.       In the event of a tie the winner will be chosen by the Eason System (See Rule 8).  If the match is still a tie each of the 2 teams will alternately bowl 1 ball at 3 stumps placed the regulation distance from the other 3. The bowlers will continue until one team is 2 ‘Stump Hits’ ahead.  Example: 1st bowler A team hits stumps, 1st bowler B team misses, 2nd bowler A teams hits stumps, 2nd bowler B team misses. Team A is the winner. Wides & No balls count as “1 miss stumps”. A wide is deemed to be outside the bowler’s return crease. The umpire will preside over this ‘bowl-off’’ & the decision is final.  Failure to arrive for a ‘bowl-off’ results in the other team winning.

8.       “Rain Stops Play”. Should rain prevent play partly or completely then the match must be played the following day commencing at 6.00 pm. Should that not be possible then a 'bowl off' will settle the match result (See Rule 7). The Eason System is based on formula of Wkts down x 10 = X. Then deduct X from runs scored. Examples: Batting side A scores 50 runs for 3wkts down. Score = 20. Batting side B scores 45-2. Score = 25.  Batting side B is the winner. All penalty points need to be added or subtracted from the scores before the formula is used. If there is a tie see (See Rule 7).  It is the umpire’s decision only to stop play.

9.       10 overs per team batting & bowling is the minimum to obtain a result. If there is no       play for any reason a new date is arranged by agreement with both teams before the next Wednesday. The new date for play must be made before the end of the Wednesday of the listed draw. If that is not possible then a ‘bowl off’ is arranged (See Rule 7) to produce the result. If that fails then ‘the spin of a coin’ between the captains decides the result. THERE MUST BE A RESULT.

10.   Teams.  ‘Ringers’ are not encouraged’.  The Spirit of Cricket is to follow the same good spirit we have experienced during TWENTY20 in 2007 & Sunday Cricket.

11.   Result of a Match. As Godstone C.C. may not be playing the winning team captain must inform Chris Hemming on 01883 742909 or in his absence Digby Christmas 01883 744440 before the end of the match day.

12.   Wet Weather/Problems etc. Godstone contacts are Chris Hemming 01883 742909, Digby Christmas 01883 744440 or Mobile 07740 674000 & Scott Eason 01883 731402 or Mobile 07758 346968.  Each playing team must provide minimum 2 or preferably 3 telephone contact names & contact numbers no later than 01 May 2008.

13.   Stewards will be provided for all the matches played to open the pavilion & set up the stumps etc. These rules are arranged for local ‘conditions’ otherwise the Laws of Cricket apply.   ALL TEAMS MUST PROVIDE A SQUARE-LEG UMPIRE WITH A WHITE COAT.  ALL TEAMS NEED A SCORER TO ENSURE THAT THEIR RESULTS ARE ACCURATE.

14.    Visitors.  Cricket Team members & Visitors are welcome to refreshments & snacks in the Godstone Club – adjacent to the Green near the duck pond. You should get a Godstone Club Member to sign you in.

15.    New Local Rule.  ESACUS provided the following text to overcome what might be classed as dangerous or hazardous using a fast bowler when the sun sinks in the west:-  Under the laws of Cricket the umpire(s) shall take into consideration any condition likely to cause a hazard to the players. If in the umpire’s opinion the sun’s position in the west renders it hazardous, bearing in mind also the abilities of the batsmen, for a fast bowler to continue to bowl from the west end he shall instruct the fielding captain that only a slow bowler may operate from that end. If the fielding captain does not abide by this instruction, the umpire shall suspend play until the sun’s position renders it safe for the game to continue. The umpire shall also consider any appeal from the batsmen that the sun’s position makes it difficult for them to see the ball and take whatever action he may consider appropriate in the circumstances. If two umpires are present they will consult in making any decision about bowler’s restriction or suspension of play.

Christopher Hemming.
Hon Fixtures Secretary, Godstone Green Cricket Club.
