Chris Knight comments .........
After loosing the toss an being asked to bowl Outwood set about
restricting the Glynde batting and after 18 overs both Tom Matthews and
John Hall had bowled extremely well to keep the score below the 100
mark for the loss of two wickets. This continued with the
introduction of Peter Murray and Dilip Seshan to the attack, slowing
the scoring rate but also taking wickets.
Knight was introduced at the later stages with Van der Walt and between
them took 5 wickets in the final 4 overs with Glynde finishing on 192
all out after 38 overs, a great effort all round.
The batting started in great fashion with Stevens and particularly
Van der Walt hitting anything off line and at 40 odd for 1 were well
placed, however with the loss of Stevens the top order failed to
build on this and to put together a decent stand and as a result Outwood
ended up on 99 all out.
In fairness to the opposition Glynde should progress and do well with a
very young, enthusiastic and well balanced side, we needed to produce 2
good halves to the day of which we failed and as such the better all
round side on the day went through. Some very notable positives
such as the continued form of Van der Walt, the bowling of Hall,
Matthews, Seshan, Murray and Knight and the overall early commitment
from the first eleven squad.
We look forward to a very positive league campaign.
